The right bat comes down to three things: your league’s stamp, your player’s size and how heavy the bat feels. A bat that is too heavy slows the swing, and the wrong stamp can make it illegal for games.

We sorted these picks by age and league. Check your league rules first: most Little League play uses a USA Baseball stamp, travel ball usually uses USSSA, and high school uses BBCOR.

How to choose

Check the stamp

USA, USSSA and BBCOR are different rules. Ask your league before you buy, because an umpire can remove an illegal bat.

Get the length right

See our what size bat for my child guide, or try the bat size calculator.

Understand the drop

Drop is length minus weight. A -10 is lighter than a -5, which helps younger players swing faster.

Choose alloy or composite

Alloy is ready to use and tougher in the cold. Composite is lighter on the hands but costs more and needs break-in.
