What length golf clubs do I need?
Most men between 5 ft 6 in and 6 ft use standard length clubs (about a 37 in 7-iron and a 45.5 in driver). Women's standard clubs are about 1 inch shorter. Go about half an inch longer for every 3 inches taller than 6 ft, and half an inch shorter for every 3 inches under 5 ft 6 in. Use the calculator above for your exact size.

Golf club length chart by height
| Height | Adjustment | Men's 7-iron | Women's 7-iron |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 5'0" | -1.5 in | 35.5 in | 34.5 in |
| 5'0" to 5'3" | -1 in | 36 in | 35 in |
| 5'3" to 5'6" | -0.5 in | 36.5 in | 35.5 in |
| 5'6" to 6'0" | Standard | 37 in | 36 in |
| 6'0" to 6'3" | +0.5 in | 37.5 in | 36.5 in |
| 6'3" to 6'6" | +1 in | 38 in | 37 in |
| Over 6'6" | +1.5 in | 38.5 in | 37.5 in |
The same adjustment applies to every club in the set. So if your 7-iron is half an inch longer than standard, your other irons are too.
Golf club length chart by wrist-to-floor
Two golfers of the same height can have different arm lengths. Wrist-to-floor (WTF) captures that. Use it together with height for a better fit.
| Wrist-to-floor | Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Under 29 in | -1 in |
| 29 to 32 in | -0.5 in |
| 32 to 36 in | Standard |
| 36 to 38 in | +0.5 in |
| 38 to 40 in | +1 in |
| Over 40 in | +1.5 in |
Standard golf club lengths
| Club | Men's standard | Women's standard |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | 45.5 in | 44 in |
| 3-wood | 43 in | 42 in |
| Hybrid | 40 to 41 in | 39 to 40 in |
| 5-iron | 38 in | 37 in |
| 7-iron | 37 in | 36 in |
| 9-iron | 36 in | 35 in |
| Pitching wedge | 35.75 in | 34.75 in |
| Putter | 34 to 35 in | 33 to 34 in |
Brands vary by up to half an inch, so treat these as typical numbers.
Golf club length for kids
Junior clubs are sized by height, not age. Most junior sets are labeled for a height range, such as 48 to 51 inches. Buy the set for your child's height now, or the next size up if they are close to the top of the range.
| Child's height | Usual age | Junior set |
|---|---|---|
| 36 to 42 in | 3 to 5 | Smallest junior sets, often driver, iron and putter |
| 42 to 48 in | 5 to 7 | Junior set with 4 to 5 clubs |
| 48 to 54 in | 7 to 10 | Junior set with 5 to 7 clubs |
| 54 to 60 in | 10 to 12 | Larger junior set |
| 60 to 66 in | 12 and up | Teen set or short adult set |
Do not cut down adult clubs for young kids. The heads and shafts stay too heavy and stiff, which makes it hard to learn a good swing.
How to measure wrist-to-floor
- Wear the shoes you play golf in.
- Stand straight on a hard floor with your arms hanging relaxed.
- Have a friend measure from the crease where your wrist meets your hand straight down to the floor.
- Measure both arms and use the average.
What happens if your clubs are the wrong length?
- Too long: you stand too upright, the toe points up at impact and shots tend to go left (for right-handers). You may also hit the ground first.
- Too short: you bend over too much, the heel digs in and shots tend to go right. Many golfers also top the ball.
- Lie angle: taller golfers often need a more upright lie and shorter golfers a flatter lie. A club fitter can bend most irons to fix this.

Frequently asked questions
What length golf clubs do I need for my height?
Most men 5'6" to 6'0" use standard length. Add about half an inch for every 3 inches taller than 6'0", and take off half an inch for every 3 inches under 5'6".
What length golf clubs for a 6 ft 2 man?
Usually half an inch longer than standard, so about a 37.5 inch 7-iron. Check your wrist-to-floor to confirm.
What length clubs for a 5 ft 4 woman?
Usually women's standard length, or half an inch shorter, so about a 35.5 to 36 inch 7-iron.
What is standard length for a men's driver?
Most men's drivers are 45.5 to 45.75 inches long. Many golfers hit a 44.5 to 45 inch driver straighter.
Is wrist-to-floor more important than height?
It adds detail. Height gives a starting point, and wrist-to-floor shows if your arms are longer or shorter than usual.
Should kids use cut-down adult clubs?
No. Cut-down adult clubs stay too heavy and stiff. Choose a junior set sized for your child's height.
