The best treadmills for home, reviewed

NordicTrack T Series Treadmills
You need this if: you want a full-size treadmill for regular running or brisk walking from a well-known brand.
- Speed0 to 10 mph (T6.5S)
- Incline0 to 10% (T6.5S)
- DesignSpaceSaver folding
- Rating4.3★ (32,000+ ratings)
Why we recommend it: NordicTrack is one of the biggest names in home cardio, and the T Series is its best-selling line. Buyers praise the quality, value and features. You can choose the model that fits your budget and space on the same listing.
Keep in mind: It comes with an iFIT trial; the treadmill works without a subscription, but interactive classes need one. Assembly and noise get mixed reviews, and some buyers mention long-term durability issues, so register the warranty.

ProForm Carbon Treadmill
You need this if: you want a trusted brand at a lower price for walking, jogging and running.
- Speed0 to 10 mph
- Incline0 to 10%
- Display5 in LCD, device shelf
- Rating4.4★ (530+ ratings)
Why we recommend it: ProForm is NordicTrack’s sister brand, and the Carbon line offers solid speed and incline at a lower price. Buyers praise the quality, ease of use, reliability and sturdiness.
Keep in mind: Some buyers mention durability concerns. It is best for walking and moderate running rather than heavy daily training.

WELLFIT 15% Auto Incline Treadmill
You need this if: you mostly walk and want steep incline workouts, like the popular 12-3-30.
- InclineUp to 15%, automatic
- Motor4.5 HP brushless
- ConsoleLED display and app
- Rating4.4★ (160+ ratings)
Why we recommend it: Steep incline walking burns more calories than flat walking and is easier on the joints than running. This treadmill reaches 15% at the press of a button, and buyers mention value, sturdiness and quiet running.
Keep in mind: It has far fewer reviews than the NordicTrack, and the display is basic.

LONTEK Walking Pad with 15% Incline and Handles
You need this if: you want to walk while you work, or you have no space for a full treadmill.
- InclineFlat, 10% or 15%
- ExtrasHandles, phone holder
- DesignSlim, slides under furniture
- Rating4.3★ (480+ ratings)
Why we recommend it: A walking pad turns desk hours into steps. This one adds incline and handles, which many walking pads lack. Buyers praise the quality, value, compact size, easy assembly and low noise.
Keep in mind: Some buyers say the belt is short for long strides. Walking pads are made for walking, not running.
A quiet walking pad alternative

NeoSilent Walking Pad with Brushless Motor
You need this if: you work from home, live in an apartment or take calls while walking.
- Motor2.5 HP brushless
- BeltExtra-large
- ControlRemote and app
- Rating4.8★ (150+ ratings)
Why we recommend it: A brushless motor is quieter and smoother than many budget walking pad motors, which matters on video calls or in apartments. Early reviews are very positive.
Keep in mind: It is a newer product with far fewer reviews, so long-term durability is less proven.

How to choose a treadmill for home
Motor
Look at continuous horsepower (CHP), not peak horsepower. For walking, around 2 CHP is enough; for regular running, aim for 3 CHP or more. Brushless motors are quieter and last longer.
Belt size
For walking, a belt around 16 to 18 inches wide and 50 inches long works. For running, look for about 20 inches wide and 55 to 60 inches long, especially if you are tall.
Incline
Incline makes walking much more effective and easier on the knees than running. A 10% incline is plenty for most people; 15% suits incline walking fans.
Weight capacity
Choose a treadmill rated well above your weight. A higher capacity usually means a sturdier frame and longer life.
Folding and space
Folding treadmills save floor space, but they are still heavy. Check the folded dimensions and whether it has wheels.
Subscriptions
Some treadmills push app subscriptions for classes. Make sure the treadmill works with manual controls without a subscription, and budget for the subscription if you want classes.
How much space and ceiling height do you need?
Leave at least 2 feet on each side and about 6 feet behind the treadmill for safety. For ceiling height, add your height, the deck height (often 7 to 10 inches) and the incline lift, plus several inches of headroom so you do not bump your head when running. Basements with low ceilings may only suit walking or a walking pad.
Black Friday and New Year buying tips
- Prices often drop around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and early January, when retailers target New Year fitness goals.
- Compare the exact model number, because brands sell several versions with different motors and belts.
- Check delivery and assembly: treadmills are heavy, often 150 to 300 pounds. Some sellers offer setup for a fee.
- Read the warranty: motor and frame warranties are often longer than parts and labor.
- Check the return policy before you buy; returning a large treadmill can be difficult.
Simple treadmill workouts to start with
- Beginner walk: 5 minutes easy, 20 minutes at a brisk pace, 5 minutes easy. Do it 3 to 5 times a week.
- 12-3-30: 12% incline, 3 mph, 30 minutes. Popular for incline walking; build up to it slowly.
- Intervals: after a warm-up, alternate 1 minute fast and 2 minutes easy, 6 to 8 times.
- Hill walk: raise the incline by 1% every 2 minutes up to 8%, then come back down.
Treadmills for seniors
Older walkers should look for full-length handrails, a low step-up height, a slow starting speed, a large, easy-to-read console and an emergency stop key. Incline walking at a gentle speed is a great low-impact workout. Check with a doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially with heart, balance or joint conditions.
Treadmill vs outdoor walking and running
Treadmills give a softer surface than pavement, steady pacing and no weather worries, which makes them easy to stick with. Outdoor running adds wind resistance and varied terrain. Many runners set the treadmill to a 1% incline to better match outdoor effort.
Treadmill safety and care
- Always use the safety key clip and keep kids and pets away.
- Put a treadmill mat underneath to protect floors and reduce noise.
- Lubricate the belt as the manual recommends, and keep it centered.
- Plug large treadmills directly into a wall outlet, not an extension cord.

Got questions?
Frequently asked questions
What is the best treadmill for home?
The NordicTrack T Series is our top pick for most people, with proven quality, a folding design and models for different budgets.
Walking pad or treadmill: which is better?
A walking pad is better for walking at a desk or in small spaces. A treadmill is better for running, steep incline walking and faster workouts.
How much ceiling height do I need for a treadmill?
Add your height, the deck height and incline lift, plus several inches of headroom. Low basements may only suit walking.
What motor size do I need for a treadmill?
About 2 continuous horsepower for walking and 3 or more for regular running.
Do I need a subscription to use a NordicTrack treadmill?
No. You can use manual controls without one, but interactive classes require an iFIT membership.
Is a 15% incline treadmill worth it?
For walkers who want a tougher workout without running, yes. Steep incline walking burns more calories and is gentle on the joints.
Can you run on a walking pad?
Most walking pads are made for walking only and top out around 4 mph. Buy a treadmill if you want to run.
When is the best time to buy a treadmill?
Around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and early January, when many fitness brands discount treadmills.
How we chose
We researched treadmills and walking pads on Amazon in October 2026 and compared ratings, the number of reviews, motor, belt, incline and what buyers say about quality, noise, assembly and durability. Many treadmill listings on Amazon are new brands with few reviews, so we favored proven brands and noted where a pick has fewer reviews. Prices change often, especially around Black Friday, so check the current listing before you buy.
